Friday, February 26 2021Virtual by ZoomIntroduction: Victoria Starr Marshall is the publisher and editor of 3rd Act Magazine. After selling her publishing business in 2011, a boomer with aging parents of her own, Victoria was struggling with her own loss of relevancy and fear of aging. She rejected our culture’s agism and believed that we needed a new story about aging, one that affirmed this life-stage, challenged the prevailing stereotypes of decline, and inspired older adults to embrace aging with confidence. Victoria and her husband, David, launched 3rd Act in spring 2016 with a commitment to the power of storytelling. She is going to talk to us today about how we can use storytelling to become better communicators, bridge differences, and to create trust and connection.

Victoria Starr Marshall is the Publisher and Editor of 3rd Act Magazine, a lifestyle magazine for older adults in the Pacific Northwest. From 1987 to 2011 she was the founder and president of Discovery Map International, an illustrated tourist map publisher and franchise organization. She lives on the Olympic Peninsula.

Friday, April 23, 2021Virtual by ZoomKarol Jennings, Senior Program Manager of Experience, Ambulatory Care Network (ACN), Providence

Here is what we would like to cover as far as our initiatives:

Inclusive language – pronouns and preferred names
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Dialogues (Gender, Sexual Orientation, disAbility, Race)
Celebration of disrupting bias
Provider and staff training for trans patient encounters
Diverse workforce efforts – creating job descriptions and ad posts that encourage LGBTQIA communities to apply
Caregiver Resource Group – internal group for LGBTQIA caregivers to support each other and the community – current focus on Youthcare.

Feedback on Allyship:

What can we do to create a safe environment for the LGBTQIA community in our environment as patients?
What can we do to create a safe environment for the LGBTQIA community in our environment as employees?
What kind of job posting would you be looking for beyond boiler plate language?
